Dr. Suzanne Freeman

Dr. Suzanne Freeman earned her bachelor’s degree from Asbury College and her master’s degree and Ph.D. from Auburn University.  She has served as a principal and assistant superintendent for Auburn City Schools as well as served as a superintendent for Cullman City Schools, Trussville City Schools, and now for the newly formed Pike Road Schools - - serving as superintendent for a total of 13 years. In 2009, she was Alabama Superintendent of the Year and was a finalist for National Superintendent of the Year. 

In 2007, Dr. Freeman was named a Paul Harris Fellow from the Trussville Rotary Club. She was the 2010 recipient of the Chiquita Marbury Technology Innovation Award from the Alabama State Department of Education. Dr. Freeman was the 2011 recipient of the Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce Gate Keeper Award. Dr. Freeman was co-chair of A+ Education Partnership Council, has served on numerous task forces for the State Department of Education, and served as a board member, district president, and president of School Superintendents of Alabama (SSA). 

Dr. Freeman is a member of Superintendents’ Leadership Network with the Center for Leadership and School Reform. She has presented nationally on such topics as effective professional learning, leadership, student engagement, community engagement, using technology to enhance learning, the impact of globalization on student learning, school reform, student achievement, building capacity, early childhood, school finance, school board governance, using data to enhance student learning, and other education topics. She is currently a member of Auburn University’s National Advisory Council for the College of Education and a member of Samford University’s Dean of Education Advisory Board. She also serves on the Board of Directors for Alabama Partnership for Children. 

She is married to Neal Freeman who is a Real Estate Appraiser. They have two children. Ryan is a graduate from Auburn University (Industrial Design) and Emmy graduated from University of Alabama at Birmingham (School of Nursing). Neal and Suzanne live in Pike Road.
