Dr. Lankford was named Superintendent of Pike Road Schools on May 1, 2022. Before this position, he served as Superintendent of Alexander City Schools for three years, Deputy Superintendent of Operations with Mobile County Public Schools, and Superintendent of Sheffield City Schools.

Dr. Lankford is entering his 25th year in Alabama public schools. During his tenure as an educator, Dr. Lankford served as a reading paraprofessional, teacher, Varsity Basketball, Baseball, and Track coach, assistant principal, and principal at various schools and systems within Alabama.

In 1987, Dr. Lankford graduated from Enterprise High School. After a short stint of odd jobs, he enlisted in the US Army in 1991, serving on active duty for five years and then with the Alabama National Guard for four years.

Dr. Lankford earned his Bachelor’s degree in 1997 and his Master’s degree in 1999 from Troy University. He completed an add-on certification in Educational Leadership from Jacksonville State University in 2004 and later an Education Specialist degree from Jacksonville State University in 2008. In 208, he completed his Doctorate degree from the University of Alabama.

Dr. Lankford is a first-generation college student. He prides himself on working through public education ranks, from a paraprofessional to the superintendent. He believes that hard work, goal setting, and relationships are the keys to reaching one’s potential.

Dr. Lankford is married to his wife Cathy of 32 years, and they have two amazing children, Colten, age 28, and Kara, age 26. Both are recent graduates of professional programs, Colten at the University of Iowa with a Ph.D. in molecular medicine and Kara at UAB School of Dentistry with her DMD.

During his free time, Dr. Lankford loves spending time with family and doing various DIY projects around his home.
