Pike Road Junior High School recently celebrated a milestone achievement, earning designation as a Lighthouse School of Excellence — the highest level of recognition awarded by the Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence.

To receive Lighthouse status, a school must score at least 90 percent in nine key performance areas, demonstrating excellence in leadership, instruction, culture, and student achievement. Even more impressive, Pike Road Junior High earned this distinction in its very first year of application. The process typically takes at least two years and includes extensive interviews, campus observations, and detailed assessments.

To mark the occasion, the school hosted a pep rally filled with energy and pride. Seventh- and eighth-grade students and their teachers entered the gym through a cheer tunnel, a celebration usually reserved for athletic victories. The Pike Road High School Pep Band helped set the tone for the afternoon, turning the recognition into a true school-wide celebration.

Mayor Gordon Stone offered congratulatory remarks, expressing his pride in the students, teachers, and administrators who made the accomplishment possible. Deputy Superintendent Dr. Jason Goodwin spoke about the significance of the award and what it represents for the future of Pike Road Schools.

The celebration also included a trivia competition, with C7 and C8 students and teachers going head-to-head with questions about the history of Pike Road Schools and the meaning behind the Lighthouse designation.

During the program, Dr. Goodwin presented Junior High Principal Mrs. Wright with a framed letter from Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence. She, in turn, recognized the teachers and students, the true heart of the school, whose daily commitment to excellence made the honor possible.

Pike Road Junior High will hold the Lighthouse title for five years, during which time the school will serve as a mentor and model for other schools seeking growth and improvement. The recognition is more than a title; it is a reflection of a culture built on high expectations, strong leadership, and a shared commitment to student success.
